Spring Camporee - Cedar Point Boy Scout Camp

Spring Camporee at Cedar Point Boy Scout Camp
2011

This campout was special with crossover of the Webelos to Boy Scout ceremony Friday night.
All of the boys earned the highest rank in Cub Scouts - The Arrow of Light

The boys will carry over with them this achivement, and have the honor to wear it on their uniform as a Boy Scout.  This was an exciting time for all the new boys as they became Boy Scouts.

As a Boy Scout the motto "Be Prepared" is deeply ingrained into the boys' minds.
They were tested with the element of Mother Nature (heavy rain and wind).  The boys learned early on the importance of planning, and packing the proper gear for camping.
Team work, and the patrol method of camping was introduced to the new Scouts as a way to learn to work together.  They set up the camp site,

with their tents and dining shelters.  They learned the Buddy system, and how to gather wood, water, and cook their meals.

The weekend was filled with learning experiences and challenges.  One of the highlights was the Zip Line.

They also learned how to tie some basic knots and lashing, and build some pioneering projects.
They had fun playing capture the flag against other troops.  Scouts participated in a service project at Cedar Point campground by clearing trails for everyone to enjoy.
This was the first of many journeys, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Welcome to the Boy Scouts of America, and Troop 56 Fairmont, MN

Committee Meeting Notes 2-28-2011

Meeting Open:
Discussed the treasury account regarding the Pancake Breakfast Fund raiser.
the profit will be divided 20% for the Troop, 10% for the Pack, and 70% to the boys the worked at the pancake breakfast.  This includes the weblow scout that will join Troop 56 after crossover.

The Boy Scouts of Troop 56 each have an account, where funds earned can be used for Scouting related expenses.  Throughout the year as the boy work to raise money to support the troop, a percentage with be added to there individual account.  These accounts are all being held in the Troop 56 checking account.

Next on the agenda, we discussed which week the troop will be going to camp Cuyuna, Cass Lake, MN.
We need to finalize the week and put a deposit on the site.   Right now we are strongly looking at the week of July 3rd thru July 9th.  There is only one lake front site still available.  The site is Cree.  A very nice site.
The Parents and boys need to look the calander and make a commitment.   The depoist is non refundable.
We need a minimum to 2 adults in camp thru out the week.  If any adults can come up for a 2 or 4 days, that would be great.  If you can be there for the whole week, that is even better.

We need to lock in a site this week.   please let Mike Madsen know if the week of July 3 thru the 9th can work.

Next, we discuss Webelos crossover at the spring camporie at Ceder Point Boy Scout Camp, and also the Pack meeting at Ceder Park, where the boys that are crossing over to Troop 56 will receive there scout handbook.
